Thursday Talks - 22/05/2014

100 years of X-ray crystallography

Speaker: Dr. Guido Capitani, Paul Scherrer Institute

Few scientific disciplines can compete with crystallography when it comes to overall impact on many diverse fields of science and to the significance of the discoveries they enabled. The talk will provide an overview of the first 100 years of crystallography, with a focus on its impact on chemistry and biology.

Looking for New Diamonds II

Speaker: Dr. Anke Zürn, Independent Artist Researcher

Dr. Anke Zürn presenting: "Looking for New Diamonds II"

Artist and chemist Anke Zürn will introduce into the topic of artistic research and art-science relations through a participative and practice based approach, while focusing on model building traditions in chemistry and crystallography. Through the construction of a crystal structure model the possible role of the model building process itself is reflected and discussed.
