Dr. Mahmut Selman Sakar received the B.S. degree from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey, in 2005, and the Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, US, in 2010. During his doctoral studies, her worked on bacterial actuation and single cell manipulation using magnetic microrobots under the supervision of Prof. George J. Pappas and Prof. Vijay Kumar. Before joining the Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Systems in 2012, he worked as a postdoctoral associate with Prof. Harry Asada in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, US. His research interests include bioactuation and biomanipulation at micro to millimeter scale, microrobotics, optogenetics, and tissue engineering.
